Designing your own cybertank is a heck of a lot of fun. Apparently so much so that there are a number similar games out there. Here are a few:

  1. RobotWar (Apple II, 1981)
Perhaps one of the first games to allow you to program a robot for combat.

  2. Carnage Heart (Playstation, 1997, ArtDink)
Program a mech (called an OverKill Engine or OKE) for combat in the arena.

  3. Robocode (Java, 2001, IBM)
IBMs program allows you learn Javascript while playing an Omega-style game. You'll also want to check out this site: http://robocode.net/

  4. MindRover: The Europa Project (Windows, 2001, CogniToy)
Program a small robotic vehicle called a "rover" for various scenarios: battles, sports, races, and miscellaneous.
